It’s not reasonable to deport every person here illegally because we are going to see scenes like Minneapolis but it’s also not reasonable to abolish ice and have open borders

You can abolish ICE without open borders. ICE was created in 2003 in tandem with the DHS as part of Bush’s national security reforms (which have significantly eroded civil liberties well beyond immigration), ironically, under its existence, immigration issues have only gotten worse. We’d do well by partially returning to the INS model, coupled with handling civil-immigration issues separately from criminal-immigration issues. Plenty of other shit to add to this but no space and tired af

I agree about not having open borders and also not deporting every person. The challenge is ICE is far out of control and I’m not sure if at this point if it’s something that can be saved. It probably is simpler to save it, but it would require massive reform and I don’t know if that’s possible.

What if we abolished ice and came up with a new system that pursued illegal immigrants legally and humanely?

Agree, there are plenty of ways to deal with legal/illegal immigration humanely and a ton of them wouldn’t need ICE at all.

Exactly. Someone overstaying a for 1 week or filled out a forum wrong shouldn’t be facing armed agents taking them into a black van. And a child shouldn’t be alone in a court room with no lawyer being argued against by a prosecutor lmao
