Oh yeah don’t forget wanting to log all the forests, increase arctic drilling, gut the endangered species act itself, remove fisheries regulations, remove pollution regulations, the list goes on and on

i’m not really arguing one way or another rn i just wanted to see. With oil more expensive because of iran, we can either pay more, or get it somewhere else. Same with AI, should we shut down AI because it’s ruining the environment faster than previous industries?

Increased short term profit means nothing if it ruins the earth in the process. It is essential to plan for the future.

yeah so what do you think about AI

I think the most important thing about ai is to manage it responsibly. The environmental impacts are there, but they aren’t different from any other data center. I think AI has its uses, but many people see it as a cure all when it is not. The important thing is to prioritize responsible development and to account for their environmental impact.

Frankly I think a lot of people overstate said environmental impact. The water demand is a thing, so they shouldn’t be built in the desert. And when water is used for cooling that will cause it to heat up, but any power plant is the same way.

Ai is fairly low on my list of environmental priorities in the current world. There are many more imminent threats. Arid land agriculture, for example, is way worse regarding water use.
