Yes, this is true. At least in America, a lot of our cities were built around the railroad. Settlements existed but people only started moving there after stations got built.

I mean nyc Philly Boston n a lot of east coast towns were originally built for foot/wagon traffic. More grid oriented than land oriented bc capitalism already started by then but not car/rail centric

Agree not all of NE built like that My western cities tho are. Chicago, Fort Worth, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Kansas City, St Louis, basically all of CA (not founded on railroads, but transformed), Omaha, Minneapolis,

SF is an exception it was already a big city well before railroads came there. LA, Fresno were transformed by the rail
