Maybe an odd take but I do think it should be legal to be racist or offensive. I get kind of worried with these “anti-hate” bills in Europe and Australia which kind of vaguely restrict free speech. Seems like a very slippery slope to me

And this isn’t an endorsement of racism by the way, I do think these bills are often supported by people with good intentions. But I don’t want to set the legal precedent that the government can just arbitrarily decide what speech is allowed. Just look at the current administration for my reasoning there

Free speech is free speech. The second that tips into violent territory, I feel like it’s the duty of the government to stamp that shit down so hard it can’t ever get up again. Racists and bigots can wail all they want but they should be scared of the consequences of their actions

Yeah exactly. I’m absolutely against antisemitism but that can’t be a guise for restricting speech critical of Israel or the UK government
