In recent history and still to this day tbh, border control has been bipartisan. Republicans shot down Biden’s border bill to give Trump an issue to run on. Obama put up monstrous numbers without agents firing a shot. Bush was obv big on the border (with 9/11 and such). Clinton supported border control funding and increased security. Reagan is the main anomaly here, PERSONALLY granting over 3 million undocumented immigrants amnesty and naturalizing them.

Whether or not Democrats supported border security or just wanted to keep Republican opposition happy is a different issue entirely though. This Trump presidency has killed traditional bipartisan compromise, holding the government hostage for funding DHS, with the only exception being to limit Trump after he overreaches.
