I agree with this. Experts are experts for a reason. But we need to recognize that it’s based on evidence which they are equipped to understand, rather than personal authority. There’s lots of pseudoscience grifters that hide behind a degree.

Homeschooling should be banned entirely, no one that’s not formally trained as a teacher should be teaching our childre

Do you know how many times in history "the experts" have been wrong? Or short sighted or arrogant or complacent? Why is it progressive to be pro gatekeeping? People are allowed their own opinions and do not have to 2FA their every thought against current understanding

Homeschooling is definitely a cancer in many environments. It is a necessity in concept, for people who have more nomadic circumstances or whose parents have them relocating extremely frequently or encountering major health and safety challenges. But it should not be allowable for any parent willing to sign a paper and say they are teaching the kids the required material. That’s how it is across the entire South. And it shows.

I think kids should be required to be in school even if the parents are nomadic or relocating extremely frequently, it’s not just education, it’s social development for children tooo

bc it doesn’t replace the social development around similarly-aged peers, school isn’t just for learning the context but for learning how to interact with others

Yet it’s these experts that are always relied on to solve crises? Obviously, more people should have access to high-quality education, but why should we take Joe Schmo’s opinion for any legitimacy versus a scientist who’s studied for years?

Yeah but at the end of the day I’m still 100x more likely to trust someone with a degree purely because of the fact that it means they’re an expert in the field

And do you know how those experts are proven wrong? Data. Experimentation. Research. Rigor. Observation. Nothing was ever proven wrong because a three-toothed hillbilly read it on Facebook, heard it from a podcast, asked ChatGPT, or parroted an unfounded talking point they heard their favorite grifter peddle off on Fox News.
