I agree with don’t believe everything we’re taught. I don’t think anyone outside a specific culture, country, etc. can assume as much. Especially if it’s one we’re at war with. We have to paint them as the enemy in every possible way. But quality of life in regards to what? Because free speech and freedom of press weren’t (and still aren’t) really options. Especially as the USSR, rights were more limited. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t things that were better.
