Also something I think a lot of people don’t know about is that Israel successfully campaigned to have Soviet Jews removed from being considered refugees in the United States so that if they wanted to leave they would have to go to Israel.

What a privileged dumb take. No, the million refugees from the Middle East did not have all the choices in the world of where they could go.

I will say that the USA and other countries did turn down away of the Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust. If they had been more accepting of refugees, less people would have died. Israel was simply the easiest or even only option for a lot of the Jews fleeing the Holocaust or the antisemitic violence that occurred in Eastern Europe in the post-Holocaust years

And in the case of the Mizrahim, the Jewish populations expelled from Muslim countries following the Israel-Arab wars, they were like directly airlifted to Israel and placed in refugee camps, they didn’t have a lot of other options. The exception was the Algerian Jews, who overwhelmingly went to France as they were French citizens
