The votes and support you get as a governor does not transition good enough to federal elections. Maryland’s former Republican governor, good approvals, ran for the senate in 2024, still lost by a decent margin. That’s just one example I can think of atm yet I know there are plenty of others. Plus there’s Al Gore, Senator from Tennessee, he lost his home state in 2000.

My mothers family is from Kentucky, I know very well who he is. This isn’t the 80s where politicians have home state advantages in presidential elections outside swing states bro

Larry Hogan of Maryland, a Republican, had a 70% approval rating right before leaving office. A year later he went on to run for Maryland’s senate seat. He put up a good fight, but he lost by 12%, even in a decent year for republicans.
