First act as president: everyone gets fiberoptic internet. I want 2GBPS download speed even in the mountains of Montana. Next: Nuclear power. Power demands are somewhat solved and we have the output needed for desalination.

We’re going to have to dig a TON if we want fiber everywhere

Your first act would cost like half the national budget itself

I recommend research into thorium reactors, we should’ve had them years ago

There’s a reason fiber optic is only really in cities where the population is really dense

Better download speeds for more efficient gooning sounds better than a half trillion dollar fighter jet that hasn’t fought any wars.

But your point holds water.

Yes. Well bore rigs are also a thing. Shoot fibreoptic or PE gaslines already. We have the technology to make it work.

Amazon is testing gigabit satellite soon so maybe we don’t even need fiber optic for remote areas soon

I would hope that better access to internet services could encourage some work from home in rural communities. Theory sounds nice. But in practice, you are correct.

Oh shit. Well that’s pretty cool.

That would be cool, they’re gonna need a lot more satellites though. Plus I can’t imagine it’ll be cheap

I think the first testers will be enterprise customers so definitely not cheap, but if you live in a remote area and really want gigabit internet, it might just be cheaper than laying a fiber line 😭 once they have competition and the tech matures, I assume it’ll be cheaper. Not too long ago, satellite internet was an absolute shitshow and you were lucky to get airplane WiFi to check your email successfully

I mean yeah obviously it’d be cheaper than laying fiber or copper but I think the market of people in rural areas who can afford and will desperately want to pay $80/month + like $300 upfront for a terminal for gigabit speeds is pretty niche. Most casual Internet users will probably still opt for the 200Mbps $30/month fixed wireless from T-Mobile or AT&T if both options are available

Where are you going to get the ultra pure silica for the fiber optic? Norway or are you going to expand the mine at spruce pine NC
