what does this mean? like genuinely? a person’s death is fully defined by the life they left behind. this isnt art vs the artist — you are who you are through your actions until death.

that’s the thing- your legacy is defined by your life but your death isn’t. anyone whether evil or a saint can be knocked out at any point by anything fr. he didn’t die because he was a bad person death isn’t justified like that

No but everyone dies. Him dying isn’t something I need to respect. He did literally nothing for his own constituents in SC they rank as one of the lowest states in almost every metric conceivable. It’s not sad he died it’s a good thing because he was a waste of a seat and oxygen

alr also i think some of y’all’s guidelines for when someone’s death is worthy of celebrating is kinda off like being bad at his job as a senator is what you say rather than like him supporting genocide, american imperialism, restricting womens bodily autonomy, opposing queer rights etc etc etc

but this is a kinda delicate nuance i’m talking about with respecting a specific person dying is different from respecting death itself i think. like “everyone dies” sounds trivializing to death itself which i think is different from talking about the death of a specific person

It’s just one lense. Among the things you listed, he was also bad at his job. It is one thing to be bad at your job, but his work was detrimental to his state. That is an entirely different layer
