Like especially considering the Chinese government frequently sponsors cyberattacks on American infrastructure, I don’t know what makes people think they’d never use your personal data in evil ways. In fact, they’re probably stealing TONS of your data without you even using their platforms and you don’t even know about it. Let’s not pretend China is some benevolent state even when compared to some of the uglier US companies
I just don’t know in what world you think a potential foreign adversary is safer to hand your personal data than American companies. I’m not a big fan at all of where the US is trending in terms of surveillance but that kind of stuff is already the norm in China. They use technology in arguably much more evil ways on their own citizens than the US does, imagine what they’d do to you
Why does China have a bunch of insanely sophisticated espionage agents in the United States and why are groups backed by the Chinese government frequently carrying out extremely advanced cyberattacks on American infrastructure? Why did Salt Typhoon hack into almost every major US telecom company to essentially wiretap every American’s phone calls and Internet traffic? You’re acting like I’ve got a tinfoil hat on but this shit really happens, and all the time too
And realistically the US probably does shit like this too, but I at least have a couple decades of experience with that to know they’re at least not ruining my life with it. It just seems nefarious for a foreign government to be sponsoring that kind of stuff and I feel pretty uncomfortable thinking about the things they could do with it
