I’m pretty sure sexists are the ones controlling this narrative. Like we’ve had insanity pleas for decades. They want to override that bc it was an emotional woman who went into psychosis

Just remember that “temporary insanity” was invented because a man who was a serial cheater murdered the single affair partner of his wife. Granted, Dan Sickles was filthy rich, but the affair partner was also literally the son of Francis Scott Keys

The whole situation is objectively funny. Dan Sickles didn’t wanna attend aristocratic events with his wife so he sent his friend (Keys’ son) and basically set them up with each other. They had to be discrete so he’d match up and down the street waving a handkerchief to signal her, which is how he got caught. Meanwhile at one point Sickles was an ambassador to the UK, told his wife she had to stay in the US, and brought a hooker, even introducing her to Queen Victoria.
