im gonna take one thing at a time with this actually. israel is an otherworldly disgrace and every person in that government should be tried and convicted for their crimes against humanity, and everyone siding with those crimes should be shown very very thoroughly what they were really supporting, made to feel very deeply ashamed and remorseful of the horrific shit there. but my post was about THE RESOURCE that the ADL can be on other matters

The ADL is unfortunately not a good source because they define antizionism as antisemitism. Criticism of the Israeli state is among their dog whistles and they associate with pro-Israel antisemites regularly because pro-Zionism has been their main agenda for a long time now

In other words, a lot of the dog whistles are real, but a lot of the others are just pro-Palestine/anti-genocide/anti-apartheid stuff, with know way to know unless you have prior knowledge or context which is which. The conflation of the two can be really dangerous, and not only means peace activists and their rhetoric get smeared as dog whistles, but that these actual antisemites can point to the ADL list and pretend to be the same thing as the pro Palestine folks.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has a good resource on antisemitism that points out that conflation of Jewish people with the State of Israel, something the ADL essentially exists to do at this point, is antisemitic https://www.splcenter.org/resources/guides/antisemitism-resource/

it is VERY VERY STRICTLY about notorious antisemitic dogwhistles, like what i was quoting with the "109/110" or things like it. ill happily shut up if you could show a single thing that is only anti zionist on this database. A lot of it actually agrees with your Southern Poverty Law Center, which as far as I can tell does not really have the same database, it doesn't even have anything on "109"

How would I be checking the Hate on Display Database when you didn’t even name it before now?? You said the ADL, which regularly takes legal action against antigenocide protests by citing criticism of Zionism as a dogwhistle, is a reliable source for dog whistles. If you want to say that specific list is a good one go ahead, but that’s not the claim your post made.

"the ADL is a FANTASTIC resource for finding out antisemitic dogwhistles" was the first line of my post. the post has a picture from their database on dogwhistles, the hate on display database. i very specifically was always talking about dogwhistles and this database on dogwhistles.

I’m just saying there’s any number of more reliable sources where you can get this information that aren’t run by people who are buddied up with open antisemites in order to defend ethnic cleansing. The ASL had deadass been lying about the definition of antisemitism for YEARS, on top of that doing so in a way that’s itself based on internalized antisemitism.

The initial complaint wasn’t even about the database because there was no indication that there was one 💀 you’ve already confirmed that your post said the ADL as an organization is a good source to learn about dog whistles. Please point out where in the post, screenshot, or initial follow up comment you mention databases or “hate on display.”

Like if I read that post and look up the ADL and antisemitism, I don’t get that database but I do got their defenses of free speech suppression on college campuses, inaccurate definitions of antisemitism, and an Israeli propaganda page that’s one click away from the homepage. If you’re talking about a database you need to say that and you didn’t, so people are gonna find the other stuff first.

sorry you know i just really thought that saying ADL DOGWHISTLES was good enough to help people because looking up "adl dogwhistles" brings you to exactly what you need to see, which is the database, or the wikipedia page documenting everything in the database, and nothing else. is there any ADL page that talks about dogwhistles in length that ISNT the database? any alternative to what i mentioned?
