My only issue with European criticism of American racism/slavery is that I, growing up in a red state, read 30+ books in school about the topic meanwhile countries like Portugal and Spain won’t even acknowledge their part in it and normalize it today too

It’s just hypocrisy. And it’s not like certain parts of Europe are better. I have never been called the n word in America. I have however been called the n word in Denmark even though I was only in the country for 4 days.

Yeah Spain in particular is really really historically revisionist about colonization. I think it has something to do with how the victims of their colonization do not live in Spain, so they can avoid being confronted with it. In the USA, victims of colonization still live here and organize to tell the real history. For Spain, all the legacies of colonization are foreign.
