Holy schizo Batman, The Holocaust was a genocide unlike those that came prior. Industrialized and developed upon those that preceded it. Yeah we did genocide natives, have chattel slavery, and Jim Crow. But Nazi Germany was a whole different beast altogether fam, you have to realize the scale and speed at which they did their shit was made from pure hatred. Not to mention the progress the U.S. has made to make amends and progress on these grounds. Ya know, civil war, anti-war protests, ect.

Germany gave reparations for what they did, half the US won’t even acknowledge the long term ramifications of the racism and more than half refuse to even address how to fix these ramifications. In terms of progress, Germany has made bigger leaps between Nazi Germany then and Germany now than the US has in centuries.

It doesn’t matter. Regardless whether you think Nazi Germany or America is worse depends on who you are. An enslaved person who just saw a white man take an enslaved baby and use them as bait to hunt alligators will see America as worse however an interment camp prisoner would say Germany. Personally I’d say America because America as a whole throughout its history has done many heinous atrocities.

America as a whole, as the OOP seems to do, but if you want to do the whole of Germany there’s a lot there too. Comparisons don’t get far, but Nazi Germany is by far the worst nation to have existed in contemporary history.

this is hilarious because West Germany famously did not denazify, and most of the leading nazi officials found themselves in West German and NATO offices. the AFD has surged in popularity because post-reunification, the west deliberately de-industrialized the east, and many people lost their jobs alongside state pensions, etc. it was the collapse of the socialist state which paved the way for a fascists revival

I do agree that west Germany did not denazify to a truly meaningful extent. They paid reparations and had some governmental reforms (notably decades later and not immediately after the war), but also had a massive amount of undeserved pardons (Nuremberg did not go far enough) and ofc operation paperclip happened. I’m not denying that.

What I am saying is that, however pathetic denazification efforts were in the west, they were almost non-existent in the east. The soviets essentially propped up the same power structures, and in many cases the same people who had years prior been ardent Nazis. The only exception being the decade-long slave labor programs the soviets essentially utilized as reparations to rebuild some of their cities (considering that the workers were Nazis though, I don’t think it was unjustified in this case)

They most certainly were unique to Germany. The fact you even consider comparing the two is crazy. Vaccines is true, though partially after the IVA of 1832 (Andrew is an Ass in its use). Primarily due to the status of the tribes and their relation to the U.S. government, an unfortunate occurrence. In most instances it was due to medical neglect that blankets were given out, rather than intentional killing and biological warfare. American Assimilation programs were blatantly evil, yes.

Like there’s not a comfortable way to prove that Nazi Germany was worse than the US because it’s not. It’s just a truism that’s repeated so many times that well yeah you don’t even have to prove it. You just kind of gesture at the cultural Gemini to say well obviously, but you can’t actually prove it because it’s not true. The dust bowl was a genocide, but we are taught that communism was evil for a famine. Fascism is capitalism at the end of its life. There is no other path for it.
