Not really, this is just seems like a perfect storm. High oil prices, a state with high gas taxes, a state with their own special blend of gas (didn’t know that until today), and a refinery is shutting down (causing them to need to import more gas from Asia or the Gulf Coast, and there seems to be very limited pipeline space from the Gulf because there’s no pipeline crossing the Rockies)
Ooooof. CA has an earlier summer blend (costs more to make because it evaporates at a higher temperature, but gives slightly better mileage and reduces smog) switch-over date of April 1. The EPA rule is June 1 but it seems like states can require a switch earlier. CA’s prices could go up more soon
yeah sucks but there's basically no way to build a pipeline through the rockies without drilling a tunnel 3 states wide which is also impossible (economically impossible anyways) not gonna get into the specifics you'll get bored but basically pipeline has to be flat in order to operate it at any reasonable cost
