to be correct in politics you have to agree with at least a couple MINOR points from the other side. MINOR points yall, that doesnt mean support the bad stuff they do.

reality? and i dont mean policy wise, i mean including the social things. like id consider myself (policy wise) to be extreme left. but i cannot rationally agree with everything that extreme left believes because ik the world is more nuanced for that

I still don’t know why I should accept that holding correct political positions necessitates that I *must* hold some positions that are associated with my political opposition. That seems arbitrary.

minor positions yes. ig you dont have to practice the points or make them of ur upmost concern, but i mean you shouldnt completely disreguard everything cause it didnt come from ur party

I agree that political dogmatism is bad, but what if it is the case that my political opposition just so happens to have the wrong position on every single issue? It seems like you’re ruling that possibility out right from the jump.

well what is ur political opposition?

*my* political opposition is irrelevant. You seem to be making an absolute claim, which suggests that *in all cases* I must side with my opposition on some minor issues.

well yeah. because there are points on the left that should make sense to even an extreme rightist. and points on the right that should make sense to an extreme leftist

for example, in 2020 i was a strong believer that wearing a mask in hopes to avoid getting an elderly or at risk person sick, was not a big deal at all. but i also can reason with the opposition in that the idea of a government forcing us to wear or do smth, shouldnt go completely unchallenged

Dawg, you’re missing the point. You’d have to established that it is *logically* impossible for a political faction to be wrong on every single issue for your point to be true. That’s the problem that I’m having.

no, im saying that currently, there is not one political party that is entirely right and implementable. so rn if someone is unwilling to hear out any points from the other side, they shouldnt call themselves objective

Now you’re modifying your claim, though. I think what you’re saying now is more reasonable.

the roman catholic empire is soo interesting to me. do u have any fun facts to share? maybe on how its influenced our society today?

i figured it was a given that im talking about the past/present and not some perfect future where a political party is entirely correct

i think having an open mind is the most important thing. to not be a hive mind for ur political party. to recognize injustice and plausibility when mentally attacking complicated issues like this

You’re original claim, you’re talking about *agreement*, though, as opposed to just *openness*. I don’t think the difference between those words is trivial.

i do think there should be at least one minor thing u agree with on the other side, not specifically a policy they enact but a talking point or social issue they speak on
