Back in the 90s, my parents were able to afford to build their own house and went through IVF, all on a high school teacher and DOT mechanic’s salaries. I make more now than my dad ever did, and that’s not saying much. They had me in their late 20s. I’m 25 now, married, and the prospect of affording another human being even in the next 10 years is so beyond me. My husband is a pilot and can’t even find a job in this market, despite a severe pilot shortage nationwide.
No one can find a job, and even when they do, the pay is absurdly low for the effort that went into obtaining that job. A degree will get you no more than the pay of a service industry job. It wasn’t like this when I started college, but when I graduated early during Covid, shit hit the fan and it’s been downhill ever since.
