The conditions in the US are becoming so bad and people have lost faith in their elected officials and institutions. Since 2015 people have been wanting a “non-establishment,” populist type figure. Trump unfortunately fit that role, as did Bernie Sanders. The establishment obviously wanted Trump more than Bernie.

That would be because Bernie posed an actual threat to the establishment. How literally anyone in 2015 was fooled to believe that a sleazy NYC businessman and TV personality wouldn’t be an establishment candidate is so far beyond me it hurts
