Can someone explain to me why there is this weird and sudden discussion about people’s IQ when that shit is not entirely relevant to politics, let alone society? i do not know one person irl who has had legitimate psychological testing for IQ results.
The average IQ on this community is definitely less than 100. Not lower than 95 though

Because eugenics is back (it never went away tbh)

OP here. I will say by far most of the discussion about IQ is blindly listening to the opinions with reportedly high IQ’s. When I mention it I’m referring to general trends in intelligence. Generally, people with higher intelligence (and thus IQ) are more likely to engage in productive, well-informed political discussion. Conversely, people with lower intelligence are more likely to parrot other peoples opinions that they like or form opinions not based on proper research

By no means is it a set rule, it’s all trends and probabilities. And that’s why IQ is not a good political talking point—because it opens doors to devaluing people and their opinions based on a number, which often isn’t representative of the individual

Personally I have had my IQ measured for a psych evaluation but that was used as an input for final eval results. You are right that most people do not have their IQ measured properly

It just seems over the last few months to have really picked up frequency online of people placing value on it or claiming people have low IQ just to grandstand in an argument. I’m about to finish a third degree and would probably score highly, but I don’t see much value of IQ measurements in society. Average intelligence can still make valid points and reasoning over someone with higher intelligence, so it doesn’t entirely hold much weight objectively in a debate. That’s where i see it most.

I’m quite curious what source this increase in frequency stems from online. Was it a Fuentes video or the guy who goes to the daycare? It seems to be heavily used by right-wing or conservative individuals lately, but I’m not chronically online so that’s just my anecdotal observation.

Good points. I don’t know the origin of it either. But I do know people have used IQ to falsely represent their abilities (or discredit the abilities of others). As #2 mentioned, it did play a significant role in eugenics, which seems to be rising somewhat again. That’s not to say all people who discuss IQ in that way support eugenics but it provides a clue to the origin of it
