Why do republicans want to block SNAP? It legitimately just seems like a pure evil thing to me…. Are they even getting any political support for this?

Ask Ketanji Brown Jackson she was the one that ordered it

You are not entitled to someone else’s labor for free, that is slavery. I understand needing a pick me up for people but when you get people who have been on it for 7-8 years is when it gets absurd. I was just reading an article that talked about how over %62 of all SNAP recipients have been on it for over five years

To make leftists and lazy low income people stop having kids and start WORKING.

Republicans don’t want to block snap. They want people to stop abusing it. Obviously some people need it, but there are also people who have lived off of it for generations, and that just isn’t what it’s for. It incentivizes people being lazy.

Aside from the fact that you’re wrong, I keep forgetting. Does MAGA want people to have more kids or not?

No. Poor People should be WORKING. Not having 5-7 kids.

But why not just do that before? They have full control of the government; they can reduce the SNAP program legally by legislation. This just seems like indiscriminate .. no reason? /gen

It’s because that’s not really why they’re doing it. They spent more money to destroy USAID food than it would’ve taken to destroy it. The cruelty is the point.

On my friend says this is to make the shutdown worse so that Democrats will fold and reopen the government I guess that makes half sense in an accelerationist POV

Still though, to me, blocking snap just makes me blame republicans more, not want to fold in healthcare

They’re just playing a game of “I’ll take away your food until you let me take away your healthcare”, and I’m not sure why they think it’ll make people think they’re on the right side of things.

It’s not the truth. Politicians making money doesn’t inherently mean that they abuse government. What’s Nancy’s net worth? The dude was rich before he got elected. Many people on snap, however, abuse the system by selling their food stamps, living off of snap for generations, there are jobs out there that tell people what to put in applications to try and get the most money out of these social programs. It’s wrong.

If you want to get far fetched and conspiratorial with it, I’ve seen some say he wants to make life so bad for the average American that riots break out, giving him an excuse to start deploying more troops or even declaring martial law

It’s not free though, it’s societally funded, and I think it’s a sign of a healthy society to take care of those in need, actually.

Your argument seems to be built on foundational beliefs in the effectiveness of capitalism and the ability of modern-day Americans to climb the social ladder, so while I could try to give insight into that, I don’t feel like writing five paragraphs. Instead, because of the insane equivalence you made between social assistance programs and slavery, I’m going to be an asshole and just say INTERESTING HOW YOU SUDDENLY CARE ABOUT SLAVERY NOW, AND NOT WHEN IT’S LITERALLY BEING USED IN OUR PRISONS

You do know prisoners are paid for their labor it may be something like $.60 an hour but they are not being forced to do it, on top of that the first ~$1k that they make in prison is saved For when the prisoner gets out so that they can get back on their feet. It may not be a lot of money, but they’re not being forced to do it

It’s literally below minimum wage, and you seem to misunderstand that social programs far from meet all needs. They just keep people afloat.

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 3d

No I’m not, they are an example of why communism/socialism won’t work though. Our gov can’t agree on something (like it normally can’t) and now 42 million people lost access to food (even if they were abusing the system)
