OP is only partially correct, or Frontier should’ve gone under as well. The issue is that Spirit had more debt, then they had the engine issues (so did Frontier), and then the shareholders screwed themselves by voting for the JetBlue merger that (predictably) was blocked. The fuel prices dealt the final blow, but Spirit was on the decline already. They declared bankruptcy twice before this war started and haven’t been profitable since 2019
