This is true, however the number of recorded illnesses and hospitalizations related to foodborne pathogens has risen, especially in some previously less viral contagions like cyclospora It’s only an estimate but I wouldn’t be shocked if the lower number of recalls is more due to the fact that there’s just less data.

The chart you posted is for investigations, in which way does that correlate to recalls or illnesses?

Hmm.. you may be onto something, I’m trying to find more to show my point but most are from news cites and not actual government sources, I’ll be sure to check this data more carefully and let you know if I find something but for now you would be correct that this is definitely being exaggerated. That said I do feel there is still some things to point out, like the increase in pathogens that normally haven’t even been an issue like cyclospora
