Apparently it’s racist to speak Chinese to Chinese looking people on a flight from China. Some of you are delusional

This is why no one takes left wing politics seriously. We could have had left wing economic policies for decades if some of you would just stop racially over analyzing every interaction and demanding everyone else do the same

When I went to Panama I saw a lot of people that looked Panamanian. I spoke Spanish to them because that’s what they most likely understand lol. Some people are just weirdly sensitive about race and make it this super delicate subject

bruh clocking presumptions of someone’s nationality or race is now just overanalyzing…? 😭 like i can’t just say xièxie xièxie to any East Asian person that i interact with without confirming that they even speak Mandarin, just like I shouldn’t just assume a Central/South American person can speak Spanish lol. this is literally just like the “I’m from Michigan” scene from Mean Girls lmfao

What language would you use to confirm whether someone speaks Mandarin or not? You wouldn’t do it in English right? That would be a little absurd

“Hello” might be enough bc that’s internationally recognized among the prompt… and they might just respond with “Bonjour” or “Nihao” instead so no need to overanalyze it. If they don’t respond to “Hello,” then maybe you’d say “Nihao” instead. If they don’t respond to that, then maybe they speak Cantonese and idk the greeting for that lol. Or maybe they’re not even Chinese and they’re another East Asian country and you’ll have to communicate via motions and limited language, which is fun!

Assuming everyone would understand “Hello” is very Anglo-centric of you. Consider evaluating how you are upholding white supremacist power structures. Decolonization requires all of us to educate ourselves on how we perpetuate systems of oppression ✊🏿😔

The hypothetical gives us three language options for greeting — English, French, or likely Mandarin. Formal “Hello” or informal “Hi” Formal “Bonjour” or informal “Allo” Formal “Nihao” or informal “Hāi” Both English options are directly translational to at least one other type of informal greeting for the other languages. The more you know!

but also i’ve had this meme saved since 2014 so i don’t disagree. let’s make the international trade language Xhosa instead.
