No but I’m not talking about any other country so that seems irrelevant

I’m not comparing the US to anywhere else. I’m simply stating that we all love socialism and hate capitalism when we don’t call things socialist or capitalist

We all hate planned obsolescence, capitalism. We all love highways, socialism. We all hate private equity buying homes, capitalism. We all love the fire department, socialism. And I could go on and on

Look around the room you’re in right now. Every single thing from the door handle to the lamp to the smoke detector to the tv is a direct result of capitalism. It drives the best innovation and product. You may not like everything about capitalism but you truly don’t understand the horrible effects socialistic principals have on a country

Capitalism doesn’t drive innovation, it drives making shittier and shittier product to increase margins. Socialism drives innovation. The most important discoveries are a result of government funded research and development. That’s true for tech, food, infrastructure, health, and many other industries. Capitalism is about charging the most you can while making a product for as cheap as possible

Do you actually believe that products have been getting shittier and shittier? Would you trade your car, tv, or healthcare for their equivalent 100 years ago?

Libraries, public schools, fire departments, highways and roads, parking, suburbs, unions, research and development, NASA, the military, corporate bailouts, etc. There’s a lot of socialism in this country

Honestly no I hate those things. But simple fact is is that most people do love car centric planning, a military that would wipe out any other country on earth, and an economy that doesn’t fall apart because the capitalists failed.

Less than 1% of homes in 1920 had both running water and electricity. They were half the size on average and virtually zero had air conditioning.

And yet they are higher quality than the cardboard McMansions that get put up today and sell for 700K dollars. Which is exactly my point. Capitalism is about doing things as cheaply as you can and extracting the most profit as possible. It’s not about making quality products. There might have been a time where that was true but it isn’t even close to true today

You’re definition and understanding of what capitalism and socialism is so distorted from reality it’s honestly impressive. Capitalism is the reason why we are the most successful nation in the history of this world. I’m really not sure who told you your information on economics, but I’d listen to a different source next time.

Maybe I’m the weird one, but I would much rather live in a wood-framed McMansion than a 1,000 sqft cinderblock box with no air conditioning. If the point you’re making is that value is subjective, I agree, but I think most people would prefer the modern house.

successful by what metrics? who actually holds the wealth of this nation? and is being superior to third world countries imperialist nations continually destabilize really a testament to “capitalism” advancements… or pushing people while they’re down over and over and over again so the “poorest” in America are “still rich!”

The idea that every advance is the result of government regulation or research is nonsense. You need to show some evidence before making an absurd, sweeping claim like that.

We shouldn’t subsidize single family subdivisions but we should subsidize housing. I enjoy having a military that I don’t have to worry about our sovereignty but we definitely spend waaaay too much on it. I think we should subsidize transportation but we need more modes. I hate corporate bailouts but the American people shouldn’t suffer because 3 billionaires lost a pissing contest

Name anything and I will tell you how it’s a result of it. For cars, emissions regulations and safety regulations. For healthcare it’s govt funded university research. For televisions it’s China and govt funded tech research.
