As opposed to conditions without housing, which I’m sure were a lot better I’m not saying Soviet bloc apartments were perfectly run - far from it. But a house is still better than no house

What we don’t have is food security, accessible healthcare, affordable high quality mental health services, affordable rehab facilities, strong community support centers, plentiful education centers that give people the skills to live alone and run a household, or a cultural sense of belonging to unify communities into making people want to stay a part of them. Building homes is nice sure. But it doesn’t solve a damn thing

Wdym it doesn’t solve a thing? If people have no home, getting a job is substantially more difficult. You have no place to shower, no address to have stuff sent to, you can’t have as many belongings because you have nowhere to store them (and I’m talking essential belongings like clothes)

It helps, yes. That’s undeniable. But it shifts the burden substantially. It helps give them safe rest and clean showers but does it address the gap in resume? Lack of employable skills? Lack of education and degrees? Where’s that help? Where’s the business casual clothing (if they aren’t lucky enough to have a non profit donating them nearby), the interview skills, and internet access for applications? A home is one very small part

Yes but how do you expect them to be able to get those skills if they don’t have a place to go to? If someone is working towards a GED, having a place to study would go a long way. Having a place where you can read up about interview tips or apply is important, such as a local public library ( hint: those are also socialist ). And it’s not like the gap in a resume is going to be better if it’s able to just keep on getting longer I’m not saying housing is this magic cure, but they’re helpful
