obviously this announcement and what it presented was stupid but how can you realistically make such a strong claim? just because it sounds dumb at face value?

The research is mixed so honestly just ask your doctor and don’t take it for minor stuff

Or to elect someone who would say Tylenol causes autism

This is what happens when the government puts public health into the political spotlight 😭

like at least this is in response a published study by Harvard researchers this month and no one is claiming it’s the sole cause, just that there’s probably a link of some sort. people are only blowing their lids because of who the messengers are which is pretty ridiculous

I mean the outrage is valid, considering untreated fevers or severe pain during pregnancy can also cause serious problems (including autism)

I agree, but I feel like most of the outrage is political and many would attack you for even saying something like that (fevers while pregnant potentially having a link to autism). people hear anything similar to “x causes autism” and turn their brain off

like the claim that benedryl can lead to dementia (also a link that several reputable studies support) would never be as controversial

I thought it was universally known that having an illness during pregnancy can cause problems 😭

I’ve actually never heard about the Benadryl one tbh

I mean yeah, but my point is that specifically bringing up autism in those conversations often causes a kneejerk reaction unlike most other conditions. And yeah the benedryl one is interesting, it’s likely not a risk for someone who takes it very occasionally but when people take it semi-regularly for sleep or allergies it can apparently do some nasty stuff to your brain
