Starting to get NYC fever as a Virginian. Not only is it one of the greatest cities in the world, its politics aren’t catered to the whims of some of the flip-floppiest “centrist”/“moderates” in the land Also…uh…the Knicks

Imagine being so blue that a socialist can win the mayor’s office w/a fair bit of ease. Meanwhile in VA, we’re hoping and praying that independents don’t flip flop to the GOP b/c “woke,” “taxes, etc

So as a New Yorker it’s a great place but sadly. Mamdani is really the exception and not the rule. Most of my time here has been under “centrist/moderate” garbage mayors. Last mayor, Adams, was de facto a Republican. Many of them sorta relied on the D next to their name and NYCs image as the most progressive city around to pass legislation that was actually pretty centrist/conservative. NY state too. Mamdani is amazing and making the City way better but always remember nowhere is a utopia.

Yeah, I do understand that the “grass isn’t always greener” which is why I probably won’t be acting on this post anytime soon. Too expensive, and too many RATS As for politics, I mean to say that unlike my state, NYC (and by extension NY) is at a very, very low risk of flipping red anytime soon

The rats 😭😭😭😭 but yeah I think this is generally true for NYC but lowkey I also think the fact that Trump got almost half of the vote in NY state in the last election and it was one of (maybe even the I would have to check) biggest swing right in terms of state level voting.

To be clear this isn’t an anti nyc thing I quite like living there. I just thing the City and people talking about it often allow it’s public image to let us get dangerously complacent about actually being progressive in practice rather than just rhetorically
