There are certain words in politics that I pretend to understand because I feel like I should know what it means but I just don’t guys what does gerrymandering meanIt’s when you move the border of districts so a certain party wins. For example say we have a blue district with 100 democrats and 60 republicans. If Republicans wanted to gerrymander that district they would move the border so now there’s 70 republicans and 60 democrats. Both parties do it republicans benefit from it more.
Some states like California have independent bodies that draw districts so gerrymandering doesn’t happen. It’s illegal to gerrymander based on race and people are afraid that’ll go away. Idk how real of an issue that is I haven’t looked into it. Recently republicans have been doing a lot of open partisan gerrymandering.
