US public school teachers can hardly teach math and english, having them teach pre K to swim would probably result in even more drowning deaths.

But in 1-4 years old there’s not that much you can do, besides just being a good parent I’ve taught swim lessons and we start at 3 year olds at the minimum

And for some kids, it takes time; some just aren’t very receptive at 3 years old. If they were to do school lessons, I’d offer them for free but not make them mandatory, and have them start at age 5

But swim classes at public swim areas aren't ultra expensive, they're just not utilized to the greatest extent and not always available

Yeah the reason they are not free is mostly just out of obligation of getting students to actually come to lessons My pool charges a reasonable amount and actually enough to cover the cost of lifeguards probably, but the pool is still taxpayer funded mostly .
