Your opinion is wrong: racism should never be tolerated. It’s fucking 2026, it’s not hard to not use slurs. If that is hard for you, it is both pathetic and very telling of the type of person you are.
I definitely am glad the “woke” canceling everything from 2020-22 they deemed “racist” has lost a lot of steam

Fun fact: You can sing any song you want and choose to still not say any slurs if there are any in the lyrics! You tried, but your excuses don’t work.

saying slurs is racist, yes. appropriating cultures is also racist. i listen to SO much rap music, and even love Vince Staples latest “Blackberry Marmalade”… i am creative enough to use different words instead of the n-word because i’m not stupid. i respect the people too much to do that.

why and how

upvote -4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

they inevitably have the same outcome, even if there isn’t a person directly there to suffer from it. ultimately, you saying a slur causes harm to someone. if you’re not around anyone, there is no one to know that you said a slur, but you still performed the act that causes harm. it may not have the exact same impact, but you still engaged in the exact same bad behavior. you’re dismissing the weight and impact of those words in order to justify your preferred ability to use them.

why don’t you use your words and explain why you believe so? actually try to articulate your reasoning as to why you believe the use of slurs in isolated instances is justified.

assuming you actually thought about this, rather than just dismissing any reasoning you receive in order to justify your own preferred behavior.

upvote 12 downvote
default user profile icon

also, while you do so, think about this scenario: You believe you’re alone while driving on the road, you go ahead and sing along to a song, saying a slur along the way, but as you’re stopped at a red light you notice someone in the car next to you overhears you saying said slur. How do you feel?

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

No, it doesn’t directly refer to that, you’re just bringing up specific points to justify your wrong behavior.

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 1d

the reasoning is that in all uses of all language, context matters. the same act of saying a slur can be racist in one instance and not racist in another instance. if the context is youre singing a song then no its not racist. if the context is youre directing a slur against a black person then yes it is racist

upvote -4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 1d

i dont care because im not calling anyone a slur

upvote -4 downvote
default user profile icon

Even if a slur was said by someone years ago in a video, it still is wrong and it’s on them to take accountability for the bad decision they made.

upvote 9 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

the slur itself is racist, that’s the issue underpinning your reasoning that you mistake. it’s not about solely context of use, it’s about the context of the words *origin*. the word itself is racist, or prejudiced (to generalize for other slurs related to other forms of discrimination)

upvote 9 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

the issue here is you are not a member of the targeted group: you are not able to reclaim said word

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

i mean the fact that you and everyone else in the comments is arguing with me on this point shows that this is an instance of what the person was saying

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

so you do not care that your selfish usage of said slur indirectly causes harm to the bystander who perceived you saying it? you do understand that in that scenario, you were explicitly racist to that individual, despite potentially not meaning to be.

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 1d

simply false, all language is contextual, all uses of language are contextual. if im singing a song with black friends and they dont care because they know im not racist then it wasnt racist of me to do. again, its all contextual

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 1d

I’m sorry dude but this is purely your arrogance in wanting to use slurs without consequence. Like you’re not right about this lmfao, but you’re probably going to keep using slurs anyway. Yeah, you’re gonna be considered racist whether you like it or not, and that’s your own fault. You may not be as racist as a klansman, but you’re racist in your own regard.

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon

yet you entirely ignore the context behind the word origin. Intention does not outweigh impact.

im actually not considered racist by anyone irl because its very clear to everyone im not racist lmao. thats where this whole thing breaks down, in real life most people (including black people) simply do not care, especially if they know you

upvote -3 downvote

in real life most people hide their true feelings from others. I don’t care if people may not say it to your face, but based on what you specifically said here, yes you are slightly racist. like I said though, you’re not klansman type racist, but do not be mistaken as you absolutely hold your own prejudice within. if you’re curious, go ahead and stop by whatever university is near you and have this same conversation with any political science or sociology professor, and ask for their opinion.

at the end of the day, you’re free to go about your day believing that your intentional use of slurs isn’t prejudiced, but just remember the rest of us recognize it as such. like I said, you could easily decide not to use slurs, but you seemingly really want to?

the more often you say a slur, regardless of the context, the more likely you’ll “slip up” and “accidentally” say it around people because it’s become commonly and freely used in your vocabulary… there’s literally no reason to say that. for fuck’s sake, just GET CREATIVE and say something else at those lyrics... “another” “brother” “homie” “mama” or any other two-syllable slant rhyme ffs like just SAY you’re disrespectful, & uncreative then, instead of all this shit!!

did I say they were? I’m specifically talking about your tokenization of your friends in order to avoid being called out for your subtle racism. to expand from your own point, do you think a single black person telling you something isn’t racist means that every black person would agree that it isn’t racist? since you wanted to discuss viewing a demographic as a monolith.

upvote 1 downvote

no of course not because again, language is contextual, this all exists in a gray area, people have different opinions. thats why its silly to apply hard and fast rules to this

so you recognize why it’s not valid to attempt to cite your friends perspective as a justification for using slurs? your opinion does not outweigh the documented history and origin of the words you choose to use. it’s the same as if a straight man wanted to say the f slur by themselves. you may not be directly impacting anyone, but you’re still making the choice to use that slur with full knowledge of the weight and impact behind it.
