It’s just law before formal government laws bc the commandments were written at the start of the rebuilding of Hebrew society. Do you need the law against murder to enforce that murder is bad to you? Ofc not. Same principle

I think we forget how old some of the content of the Bible actually is. Most of the Old Testament is shit like one dudes family tree, how to structure society during nomadic tribal period of the Hebrews, and how to build the tabernacle lol

Tbf there tho, the more modern evangelical Christians in particular seem to consistently make the argument that if you don’t follow religion you can’t have morals, suggesting that morals can only come from whatever religion you follow. Meaning they only hold those morals because they think that whatever higher power they believe in told them to. Like you make a great point, and you’re absolutely right. But in this day and age, it’s a reasonable conclusion, and a valid point of concern
