Might be a hot take but I think the federal government needs to put actual regulations on social media platforms regarding age restrictions and the content promoted by their personalization algorithms. I don’t see how society functions long-term as is

not at all. i think children should only have supervised access to the internet, in schools, public libraries, and internet cafes (if those even exist here). things should of course be designed in such a way that makes it easier for children to go places (building our communities for people, not cars)

Yep. If we do this with drugs we should do this with social media. It operates on the same brain pathways and arguably is more damaging to society

parents are more worried about their children being trans than they are their children being groomed and harassed on the internet. one is much more damaging to a child’s psychology, and it’s definitely the predation caused by unsafe and unsupervised access to the internet
