No Patrick, America has not always been inherently fascist.

day one and this nation was an ethnostate in the midst of two genocides and chattel slavery. it’s more so that liberalism and fascism are the same thing, just in different forms. fascism is when the colonial violence that is ever-present under capitalism is turned inwards on the franchise

Applying the word fascist here is definitely anachronistic, but it’s not for nothing that every major fascist regime learned a substantial part of its policy and basic values from Americans. America has always been a bloodthirsty white ethnostate, we just weren’t old enough for some of the key aspects of fascism until at least the reconstruction era.

…no. no it hasn’t. america has quite literally never been authoritarian. the closest it got was the early period before jacksonian democracy when it was effectively an oligarchic republic but even that is not true authoritarianism

No I’d disagree with that. It was never fascist but it has most certainly been authoritarian against specific ethnic groups.

that’s not what “authoritarian” means, the words you’re looking for are “oppressive”, “exclusionary”, “exploitative”

For the time means nothing Restriction of free and fair democracy is authoritarianism. The US has fit this description since its inception. It has gotten a lot better of course but is not a democracy yet

Its a scale and hard to pinpoint exactly when i’ll call it a democracy. But it needs to have real evidence of having free and fair elections. Free meaning people vote not influenced or coerced by other powers in society like the government itself (the US fails here), and fair meaning voting is not tampered with or uneven access across the land. The US does better here, id consider it democratic in this respect atleast from 1965-2020, but large money in politics is actively threatening this.

like i’m not sure why whites even bother arguing this other than to pat themselves on the backs and make them feel better about living in *the* ethnostate

Fascism does just mean any bad thing you dislike. It has a pretty specific definition.

‘Liberalism and fascism are the same thing just in different forms’ Do words even have meaning any more? Your comment was 100% correct up until this point.

they’re both phases of capitalism, hence the same thing in different forms

authoritarian regimes are primarily defined by the rejection of popular sovereignty as the basis for legitimacy of government, so if a country is actively allowing for franchise, it is at a base level not authoritarian, even if it is not fully democratic like you can argue that america wasn’t fully democratic until after 1965 but it wasn’t authoritarian before then, it was just not fully democratic

In what world is liberalism and fascism the same thing in different forms? Capitalism can coexist with both. But they are not at all alike. Why don’t you ask a Holocaust survivor if liberalism and fascism are just two sides of the same coin? If you’re trying to pull a ‘both sides’ or ‘horseshoe theory’ bit here, it’s not working.
