World’s most racist country? (If your choice isn’t included in the poll, comment it and upvotes will be counted as votes. Not perfect but gotta make do with what we have)

I feel like India is a strong contender

It’s actually Korea. Israel has lots of bigotry, but not much actual racism.

2024 rankings from the World Population View have Israel, then Russia, Japan, US, and then South Africa from most to least racist. It should be considered that data about racism usually tends to be somewhat self-reported and often looks at more than just social norms.

Iran, Myanmar, and Greece are up there

I’m curious to what people think racism consists of, bc the US should be higher

Definitely not America or Russia. I know America inspired the Nazis and stuff but today we definitely are not the most racist. If we are going the historical inspiration route and stuff its Portugal. Portugal hands down. South Africa is interesting because racism is so casually normalized in a way thats really jarring to see from an American standpoint. Casual racism there is NOT on the same level as America and its is very “fact of life” there. I voted Israel.

Russia needs the most votes if you know anything about how anyone who isn't Slavic is treated there.

Might do another poll tomorrow (provided I’m not banned again by then) for second most racist country, and I’ll put India instead of Israel and all of the former Yugoslav countries instead of South Africa

I’m surprised Russia is higher than the USA. The USA should be higher than Russia, even though racism is rampant in both countries

I can see it, but I think Russia should be 4th place, and Japan and the USA should be higher

Portugal is a good honorable mention. Might include them in future polls

For historical reasons. I doubt they are the most racist today.

ooooh Myanmar! Constantly sidelined because people overlook the Rohingya genocide. Will be adding them in the future

also Somalia and Sudan

I must admit I don’t know too much about inter-ethnic conflict in those two countries aside from the basics with Somalia, but I now feel compelled to mention Rwanda

I mean they were definitely up there all the way to the 1970s, that sort of legacy doesn’t vanish overnight

rwanda has tensions but its a lot better than it was during the genocide thankfully. Sudan has its own concepts of race and ethnicity that don’t neatly match up with Western ideas of race (and that i don’t fully understand) but it involves a primarily Arab elite oppressing a primarily sub-Saharan population. the Darfur genocide is racially motivated

The idea that america inspired the Nazis is ridiculous

The inspiration for concentration and work camps came from Native American reservations and also the Boer camps the Brits had set up.

It’s literally a historical fact? Hitler wrote about our racial laws and how we put Native Americans in camps. Jim Crow was a direct inspiration for Nazi racial laws

I think Korea probably (definitely) deserves a spot on a future poll, but I think Israel has a lot of both

This round has ended but i’m tempted to lump in Ukraine and Poland with them in the future ones because IMHO all three are very similar in racism levels

I see what you mean about japan, but I think the US seems a lot more racist compared to other countries than it is because were so open about it. You dont hear much about russian racism for example because its much more white than the US so its less prevalent even if the populace is more racist overall
