Weaker country and stronger country used to be one country, but after the ideology of the weaker country loses an important election, they flee towards a consolidated area and declare independence because the stronger country will no longer allow them to exploit labor, so stronger country threatens war. Where have I seen this one before?

I wouldn’t exactly call the Chinese civil war an election. Kai-shek was an absolute piece of shit and the Taiwanese government was awful and authoritarian until the 90s, but after it democratized it’s pretty clear which of the two governments is better for human rights.
