We didn’t treat them like shit. We actually took care of them. It was a much different time back then and before slaves had thier freedom. So it was either with us or they get captured and go a harsh slave master that would beat them.

I think you don’t understand how different things were back then. If they weren’t own by our family they’d be owned by other masters who would probably beat/rape/torture them. And this is before slaves got their freedom. So it’s not like they could just roam around freely. I do agree owning slaves is wrong and fucked up but it’s objectively better to be owned by a family who didn’t hate black people, made sure you are fed, clothes, and healthy, compared to one that will whip you

At a time when it was legal. It was either get owned by us or get owned by someone else. Slaves did not have any freedom. They couldn’t just be free. Being born free was a myth because they were often tricked or captured into slavery. And if they weren’t they would face a lot of crazy discrimination and would not be able to live in society freely. I hate that I have to even teach u history right now lol

Are you being this dense on purpose? Cause I’m about to stop responding. Black people free or not did not have many options. It’s widely agreed before the abolishment of slavery a black family would be better off under the care of an ethical slave owner than a bad one or even free. Unless they’re leaving the country it would be incredibly hard for them to survive on their own

I’m saying when you take the time and location into consideration it is significantly better for a black person to be owned by an ethical slave owner than a bad slave owner or free. And for the free ones not because freedom is bad but because they would mot have access to land shelter food clothing ect..and often would get forced or tricked back into slavery anyways
