“there hasn’t been for decades”.. no there just never has been a real left opposition in america. eugene debs wasn’t a real opposition because we imprisoned him before a real leftist movement could build. i suppose the closest was fdr but he did kinda do the whole japanese concentration camps thing and that wasn’t great, the US also literally launched nukes like right after he died so that wasn’t great either

yeah i agree. i didn’t say he was a leftist, or mean to be interpreted as saying that, i said there had never been a leftist government or president in america, he was the closest but wasn’t close to being enough. i think if america had a left wing and a right wing instead of a uniparty that is far right, he’d be pretty much a centrist which was kinda back to my point on how far right america has always been and how there hasn’t been a true left opposition
