Does anybody else find it weird how historical violence is almost always widely supported by current day violence is almost always widely criticized?

Our founding fathers are massively praised, John brown is massively praised. Sherman is massively praised. All of these people would be criticized in modern day.

Successful modern campaigns to make them look like the good guy. Most of the stories you hear about these people make them sound like great people fighting for good but these stories are almost always based on fiction or can't be confirmed. Think Washington and the tree.
