So you do realize there’s objectively more livestock than data centers so no shit it uses more? Additionally, that is something that directly benefits humanity because it gives us protein in a stable source of food. Water from farms can be treated and used again, water from data centers cannot.

you realize that CAFOs (concentrated animal farming operations) have already been criticized by freshwater conservationists for decades… right? we don’t like massive CAFOs. nobody does. FUCK SMITHFIELD. 1 in 4 pigs are from Smithfield and they are trying to lobby in Congress to sneak into a bill (Save Our Bacon Act or some shit) that’d make that ratio even worse… nevertheless. this is a great example of a false equivalence.

We dont though, livestock is vastly more inefficient than plants. If we replaced those 16% of calories with plants we would cut agricultural water usage by 47%, down to only 53% of what it currently is. Thats nearly 1 Quadrillion Gallons in a single year, equal to 3400 Years of AI usage at our current rate. So if we just stopped for a single year, we could offset AI ise for basically as long as developed civilization has been around.

uh… no i would say they are correct because it is damaging MORE than just the ecosystems that they’re destroying. it’s like exponentially more than just freshwater ecosystems being impacted, actually. people don’t care much about CAFOs because freshwater & animal welfare are the only TWO things that it really impacts directly.
