Every once in a while i remember how fucking weird it was that I had to stand and pledge allegiance to the flag at 6 years old

It was kindof interesting to see it fall out of favor in real time. It went from everyone does it as asked, doesn’t think about it, to people do it but they mumble, to people stand but don’t say anything, to some people don’t stand, to the minority standing, to no one standing. Even our teacher was like yeah if you don’t want to, I’m not gonna fight you on that. Now I teach at a city school and they don’t do that shit at all, I wonder what the norm is now.

honestly what irked me the most about it even as a kid is the “under god” part. even if everything else held true, it was all invalidated by bringing in a religious entity imo

They’re trying to take our honest patriotism and twist it to mean something it is not

Honoring the men and women who fault to give us the freedoms we have in this country is the smallest thing we could do

they fought to give us oil. and by "us" i mean the oil and gas shareholders. and by "fought" i mean killed a ton of women and children and destroyed their homes, schools, hospitals and other critical resources

False, the people that fought to free us from the oppression of England did not to it for oil

the pledge of allegiance was made a century after the american revolutionary war. we haven't had an oppressor to fight for multiple centuries. you sing the pledge for oil, precious metals and land. that's it

It’s not even really honoring them tho. It’s pledging allegiance to the US as a country

i didn't have time to add this earlier but it's also important to note that the american revolutionary war was fought over stolen indigenous land and the natural resources within - oil was not a major resource people fought over. it was quite literally the same thing (plus the genocide of indigenous people)

The US has only ever had to fight for our freedom in the Revolutionary War. The Civil War and WW2 were the only other wars we had to fight. Pretty much every other war was out of pettiness, fighting nonexistent communist or socialist threats, imperialism and colonialism, racism, etc. When we fight petty, imperialist wars, no one is dying for our freedom. They’re dying for oil and other resources. No one has ever came for our freedom since the British in 1776.
