my friend, i think your interpretation is slightly off. i understood this was more of a joke about the personal dynamic between the Kirks & their marriage; CK’s misogyny was also rooted in EK’s own misogynistic rhetoric, but also that he was embarrassed by her & just didn’t want her out in public anyway bc she’s not good at speaking or being human. 😅
You’re jumping through hoops instead of taking accountability for the misogyny. Just like I told someone else, when you say “this particular woman I won’t like should stay at home”, it’s misogynistic which reinforces negative stereotypes for all women. You know you can express you don’t like her without making a misogynistic joke, right? You don’t have to double down.
I mean you’re not wrong, but we’re talking about conservative women here. They are the ones actively prescribing misogyny and women’s domesticity the most. If they aren’t gonna practice what they preach, then we should be able to call them out for hypocrisy. Maybe it would be offensive to tell them to get back in the kitchen, but isn’t that the whole point? If they themselves are living proof that (prescribed) women’s domesticity is a total joke, then why NOT emphasize that point?
