 The median voter in many red states like West Virginia and Kentucky are probably just as progressive on economics as the DSA, but they are so chronically afraid of “wokeness” and “socialism” so they vote republican. What can be done about this? Education?

the rural working class has been screwed over in every direction possible by people in power and so heavily propagandized to think it’s some minorities fault. i think actually addressing their concerns and issues seriously and not dismissing them is a big thing. like, moving away from coal is overall good environmentally, but does nothing for places where that’s the only job besides walmart

Indeed. I think effort should be made to give some of them first dibs on things like new green energy manufacturing jobs. Build a giant turbine factory in West Virginia or something.

^think thats spot on, if democrats offered real progressive policy that worked and reassured people about practical issues (ai job loss, non renewable energy job loss, factory job loss…etc) that’d be the solution
