If there’s evidence that someone consistently puts their religion above their duty to serve the people (many of who aren’t religious) then they shouldn’t be able to serve. But yeah simply being religious shouldn’t be grounds for discrimination, think that should be obvious

Well, these same people believed Obama was the antichrist, there were blogs, books, and political ads dedicated to it. Also, like 40% of republicans believed he was Muslim. I’m not dis/agreeing with your post, but religious extremism and fear mongering among staunch evangelicals already exists because they want to bar others from public office (Sharia law, Obama swore oath on the Quran theory, Trump saying Ilhan Omar loves Al Qaeda and she and Rashida Tlaib should be deported)
