“Self driving cars will fix traffic” no they won’t. Traffic is caused by cars. If you replace all the cars on the road now with self driving cars, there will still be the exact same traffic

I mean if we’re splitting hairs they will be slightly better for their ability to coordinate and not engage in the types of driving that make traffic worse (tailgating, crashing, erratic routing…etc). But generally speaking I agree, they’re not the solution to our traffic problems by any means

I agree, there's evidence self driving is safer which is fantastic and good, but it's not gonna solve traffic problems in the slightest. If anything, if public transit is neglected in favor of making everyone use self driving cars, there'll be more traffic since more roads, lanes, and cars will exist per person

Traffic isn’t caused by the number of cars, its caused by stopping and autonomous vehicles could dramatically reduce it in a number of ways. Trains and buses are great in some contexts, but not at all practical for most Americans.

Yup the only autonomous vehicles that will help traffic are autonomous trains and buses

Traffic is in fact caused by the number of cars. And transit is in fact practical for most Americans as most Americans don’t live in the middle of nowhere. Transit also built those middle of nowhere towns in the first place. Transit would reduce cars on the road making it easier for people who do need to drive.
