Six months? I’m starting my first year teaching in what is MUCH closer to a warzone than Portland and I only make $40k a year. That’s literally like 15 months of labor for me.

Since when are government jobs capitalist? Do you really think 50k is more money than any of us will ever earn in 6 months?

1 in 5 workers earn six figures, and the number increases with age. It’s pretty insane to think that no one on here will achieve that very attainable goal.

Gen Z is likely to be the highest earning generation in history when we reach the peak of our careers

I say again, tell that to the teachers and see what happens. I’ll give you a hint, they’ll laugh in your face. MAYBE you’re right about the private sector, but we will be lucky if they give us a raise to $60k.

In western Kentucky, the way you can earn the most money as a teacher is have a Ph.D and teach for 30ish years. Even still, that rate is a MAXIMUM of $80k in the best counties.

Not everyone on here is a teacher. If you go into teaching you are choosing a career that is unlikely to yield six figures unless you land a job as a principal or similar position.

7% of Americans in their 20’s are already earning six figures. It’s completely attainable if it’s your goal.

So you’re saying teachers deserve to penalized for choosing an INCREDIBLY rough career that is VITAL TO THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY, because it’s not a get rich quick scheme. Maybe, just maybe, you could suggest teachers get paid more. Or maybe take into account that your perceptions of how much people earn on average is wrong. Either one.

This seems like a lot of projection. I never said anything about what anyone “deserves” or claimed that the average person makes six figures. OP claimed none of us will earn six figures. That’s like telling a group of kids none of them will be six feet tall. Most won’t reach that height, but it’s hardly rare.

It is when more and more people in this generation can’t find jobs in the fields they were training in.

We are the highest paid generation at our age in history.

And yet, the economy sucks. Housing is more expensive and home ownership is more unattainable than ever. Grocery, cars, electronics, gas, everything is rising and not showing any signs of coming down. Medical costs too. College tuition, especially for med and law school is ridiculous. Yeah, ofc we are the highest paid generation but MOST of that is inflation, meaning prices have surged even more so to offset it.

We’re the highest paid generation even after adjusting for inflation, which is the average of all consumer price increases.

I guarantee that NO ONE in my area feels that. No idea where that area is, but you can spit numbers at me all day. Doesn’t change the reality that in my region of the country, the average simply doesn’t apply. Even if it’s true.
