It’s weird to me how little the west talks about atrocities against Armenians being committed by Azerbaijan. You’d think conservatives would be all over this stuff: 100,000 Christians being expelled, churches being razed. But Americans don’t even know

Like conservatives are all the time tilting at fake Christian persecution that doesn’t exist. And then here’s a very real example of it and they just… don’t give a fuck? Same thing with Turkey’s actions towards Greeks, Armenians, and Assyrians. That’s seemingly just not acknowledged.

I can see why conservatives ignore atrocities committed by Israel against Arab Christians. Conservatives have political motivations to support Israel, and because the perpetrators aren’t Muslim it doesn’t fit the narrative they want as much. But ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan and Turkey is exactly the sort of thing they should be all over. Is it money? Are we just that desperate for Turkey’s approval?

Last night I started reading about the current status of Stepanakert, former capital of the ethnic Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. It’s horrifying. This region has been Armenian as long as history records it, and that all ended in 2023. Completely depopulated after Azerbaijan gained control. Azerbaijan is now razing churches and monuments and populating it with Azeri settlers.

Many of these settlers, it’s worth noting, are Azeris who were themselves displaced from this region in the 90s. So it’s not completely one sided but I think it’s very clear Azerbaijan is the primary aggressor here.
