The idea that the way to improve our conditions and society is through reforming the gov (expanding Congress, etc) by doing things such as voting Democratic is predicated, first, on the notion that our gov represents us in any meaningful way at all. Well…The government hasn’t represented the people since its founding. But to look more recently, lobbyists and special interests are far more represented by Congress, the executive, and the judicial than any of us are. I’ll reference the Gilens and Page (2014) study that shows public perception on a topic has had a near-zero effect on legislation while money drives it all. A serious case can be made that our current government cannot stand on the simple fact it does not represent its people.
