Ig my hot take is it’s near impossible to unite a nation of large size (i.e. the US, China, Russia, etc.) under one flag for an extended period of historically significant time because humanity can’t handle that at this point

I mean there’s been a lot of pretty massive empires and dynasties that have existed for long periods of time

citing “history of the entire world, i guess” i recall China having been broken many many times over the centuries of its ancient existence.

Not really tbh. Historical context is very important here. Colonial America had about 1/3 patriots, 1/3 loyalists, and 1/3 neutral during the Revolution. Really not much has changed, even down to regional demographics. Large nations also tend to gain their size from the subjugation of its neighbors, which breeds discontent for decades to centuries. Even past Rome, other great empires stood for extended lengths of time like the Byzantines and Ottomans

They don’t last for thousands of years like all “great societies” dream of doing. In my opinion the human race hasn’t evolved to the point of mass national identities. I guess what I mean by historically significant period of time is an empire/dynasty/whatever lasting through major periods of human advanced (industrial revolution, space age, etc)

Didn’t the Roman Empire last like 1500 years

Fair enough, I guess there is an exception to the rule (even if the decline of the Roman Empire was gradual over time)
